What is Bipolar Disorder?īipolar disorder is a serious mental illness that is characterized by extreme mood swings, abrupt changes in energy levels, and distorted decision making. Once you have an adequate diagnosis that is appropriate and you get the right interventions, you can live a wonderful healthy, thriving life with bipolar disorder or bipolar disorder and ADHD. The biggest obstacle to a good prognosis is an adequate diagnosis. We must also understand how it mimics and overlaps with other neurobiological conditions, and what treatment options exist for patients who suffer from bipolar alone or in combination with a disorder like ADHD. To stop this national health crisis, we must first better understand bipolar disorder and how it manifests in different settings at different ages in both its manic and depressive forms. Among undiagnosed and untreated bipolar patients, the rates of suicide - as well as alcohol and drug abuse, unprotected sex, and other risky behaviors - is substantially higher. People with bipolar disorder have a reduced life expectancy of about 10 years. Suicide occurs often during manic phases, when patients are more impulsive and fearful of falling into another depressive cycle. Studies show that at least one in three 5, or even one in two 6 will attempt it - that is 15 times greater than the suicide rate in the general population. One in five people with the condition will commit suicide. Whatever the reasons, undiagnosed and/or untreated bipolar disorder can have deadly consequences. Once considered an adult condition, bipolar disorder does begin in childhood but its symptoms are difficult to diagnose because they so closely mimic other childhood-onset conditions like ADHD and because they are often dismissed as signs of puberty.4) As such, physicians are more likely to recognize and screen for ADHD. Bipolar disorder, in contrast, impacts just 2.4 percent of the population. have symptoms of ADHD 3 many of those children grow up to become adults with ADHD. ADHD is far more common than bipolar disorder.Several depressive and manic symptoms of bipolar disorder and ADHD symptoms resemble each other in both children and adults. This comorbidity rate is significant enough to justify dual evaluations for virtually every patient, yet bipolar disorder is often missed or misdiagnosed in patients for the following reason: 1 Recent research also suggests that about 1 in 13 patients with ADHD has comorbid BD, and up to 1 in 6 patients with BD has comorbid ADHD 2. “What Is Causing My Racing Thoughts?” Bipolar Disorder and ADHDīipolar disorder often co-occurs with ADHD, with comorbidity figures as high as 20%. The rates of misdiagnosis and delayed diagnosis are particularly high among patients with bipolar symptoms they are astronomical for patients with bipolar disorder plus ADHD. Yet accurate diagnosis rates for co-occurring or stand-alone conditions like obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety, and even autism remain discouraging at best. The majority of people with attention deficit disorder (ADHD or ADD) also have another condition or learning disability. That being said, when a Reddit user asked this question in the r/AskReddit community, "ex"-gifted kids and old souls crowded the replies and shared where they ended up in life.ADHD’s high rates of comorbidity with other neurobiological disorders are well researched and documented. If you were one of these kids, then you most definitely know the feeling of yearning for something great but you can't seem to dream big or motivate yourself anymore because you already burned yourself out throughout your youth. This might also be an effect of parents smothering their kids and prodding them to be the best all while growing up, that they develop an unhealthy obsession with keeping themselves at the top, especially in terms of grades. People have coined this term for a lot of people that have been said to be gifted, talented, and smart beyond their years when they were still a kid, but went into a somewhat downward spiral when they became adults, because of all the burnout, pressure, and excessive perfectionism they tried to achieve all while growing up. These days, you may have heard of the term "Gifted Kid Burnout" or the "Gifted Kid Syndrome" making rounds in the Internet world. Well, not all of them ended up down the drain, though, but it's safe to say that there are truly a good number of them that surfed the waves high when they were young and crashed to the shore once they got a taste of college or adulthood. It's not really that surprising to learn that most "gifted kids" and children that were often said to be "old souls" have grown up to be people who have such depressing lives. The same day I served Wanda Sykes and a gentleman and their tab was $100 or something, and they tipped $100. Renee Rein (general manager, 1999 to 2015): “Coffee Shop gets this bad reputation of only hiring pretty people that are models and actors, but that’s not true. The way that she trained me was: ‘Here, go ahead, go take a table.’ She kind of let me do my own thing.” She still hired me.”īyata Dikker (server, 2000 to 2004): “My first night working there Laverne Cox trained me. Nuts played an important role in diets of many cultures and civilizations for centuries due to its high energy and nutritional value as well as its huge variety of flavors and unique taste. Potassium with a mean value of 6225 mg/kg was the mineral with highest amount in cashew samples. Vitamin E with an average contribution of 5.80 mg/100 g was the most abundant vitamin. Meanwhile, butter mochi is a Hawaiian dish that has been described as a cross between cake and mochi. Daifuku is a thicker mochi that often contains an especially sweet filling, like a strawberry or even pudding! Dango, on the other hand, is a Japanese dumpling made from rice flour mixed with glutinous rice flour and uruchi rice that is prepared with a different mochi-making method instead of being consumed as finger food, three to five round-shaped dango are served on a skewer. There are a couple of variations of mochi, including Daifuku, Dango, and butter mochi. So rest assured, mochi made with 100% mochi rice or rice flour is gluten-free. The gluey texture comes from the starches present in the rice grains. One thing to note for any gluten-free folk is that despite all this talk of "glutinous" rice, there isn't any gluten in mochi rice. In the past, mochi made with sweet rice flour and not whole grains would have been considered dango (more on this later), but now that's not always the case. While traditionally mochi is made from grains of rice, modern methods often use mochiko rice flour instead. Much of it is made by machines or at home. Nowadays, not all types of mochi are made by hand. Mochimochi means "chewy," "springy," or "elastic." Part of the reason for this confusion is that mochi can also indicate texture in Japanese. It can be quite confusing for the casual traveler. Other times Japanese snacks may be made with mochigome, but aren't always called mochi. When I say blurred, sometimes you can find sticky rice cakes that are called mochi but aren't actually made from grains of mochigome. But often, the lines get blurred, and that's why we're here to help! But what is this Japanese dessert? The basic definition of "mochi" is a sticky rice cake made with glutinous rice called mochigome. Mochi is having an international moment, with retailers carrying mochi ice cream, and small shops popping up selling this Japanese treat worldwide. If you’re new to the world of mochi, keep reading on to learn how the tasty treat is made, the different types of mochi, and more. It is believed to dissolve into the water if not eaten within 30 minutes of being served.Mochi is one of the most popular Japanese snacks out there, and for good reason! It’s a deliciously sweet treat that practically melts in your mouth and has the same soft consistency as a cloud! (Okay, that one might be an exaggeration). Its self-destructing mechanism is a matter of fascination. The Japanese Raindrop Cake is sold at very few stores - it is also available in places outside Japan now - and cannot be packed for 'to-go' parcel because of its short shelf-life. It also goes well with honey and peanut powder. The transparent water cake is usually served with roasted soybean powder (known as Kinako) and black sugar syrup (known as Kuromitsu). The Japanese Raindrop Cake is traditionally known as Mizu Shingen Mochi - Mizu in Japanese means water and Mochi is a kind of dessert made of rice flour. In theory, the water is solidified using agar-agar and is then put into a spherical mould to be set. The water from these mountains is believed to be so tasty that it does not need any flavouring. It is made up of water from the Southern Japanese Alps, which is solidified just enough to be given a shape. Photograph: Japanese Raindrop Cake - a transparent drop cake that looks like a bubble of water - has taken the internet by storm. The Japanese Raindrop Cake is traditionally known as Mizu Shingen Mochi. I am somewhat inured to this abuse, after researching and writing about it for years. Although they may provide cheap thrills for the viewer, their deeper purpose is to humiliate, shame, and objectify women, especially women who have the temerity to speak out. But these videos aren’t meant to be convincing-all of the websites and the individual videos they host are clearly labeled as fakes. In some moments, the original performer’s mouth is visible while the deepfake Frankenstein moves and my face flickers. Whoever created the videos likely used a free “face swap” tool, essentially pasting my photo onto an existing porn video. government portrait, taken when I was six months pregnant. The images don’t look much like me the generative-AI models that spat them out seem to have been trained on my official U.S. In subsequent months, at least three artificially generated videos that appear to show me engaging in sex acts were uploaded to websites specializing in deepfake porn. Last year, I resigned as head of the Department of Homeland Security’s Disinformation Governance Board, a policy-coordination body that the Biden administration let founder amid criticism mostly from the right. Read: We haven’t seen the worst of fake news Yet policy makers have all but ignored an urgent AI problem that is already affecting many lives, including mine. Many commentators have been tying themselves in knots over the potential threats posed by artificial intelligence-deepfake videos that tip elections or start wars, job-destroying deployments of ChatGPT and other generative technologies. The only emotion I felt as I informed my lawyers about the latest violation of my privacy was a profound disappointment in the technology-and in the lawmakers and regulators who have offered no justice to people who appear in porn clips without their consent. For more than a year, I have been the target of a widespread online harassment campaign, and deepfake porn-whose creators, using artificial intelligence, generate explicit video clips that seem to show real people in sexual situations that never actually occurred-has become a prized weapon in the arsenal misogynists use to try to drive women out of public life. Recently, a Google Alert informed me that I am the subject of deepfake pornography. Should they detect the player, zombies will apply the same single-minded pursuit until the player is either dead, or leaves the immediate area. player) activity, and will relentlessly attack anything that impedes their movement until they are killed or the obstacle is destroyed, including player-built fortifications. They are also drawn to areas of human (i.e. Stealth and distraction can be used to avoid unnecessary conflict. As the in-game days progress, tougher and more aggressive variants begin to appear. While the game includes wildlife that can be hunted for food or will hunt the player, the main hazard is zombies, which are affected by the game's day/night cycle-during the day they are relatively slow-moving and easy targets that can only detect the player at relatively close ranges, but at night they become feral, which makes them move much faster and thus greatly increases their threat. The player can also gather and create materials-from nature and the remnants of human civilization-to construct these necessary items. Objects in the world degrade through use, so the player has to search for or make new tools as the game progresses. The game is voxel-based (similar in some aspects to Minecraft, but with smooth terrain), allowing for simple building and destruction of objects in a physics-simulated environment (for example, building a structure with no support such as pillars and walls can lead to its collapse). As a survival game, the player character is in constant need of water and food for sustenance, as well as being vulnerable to injury and illness. The player can either spawn into a randomly generated world or the pre-set world of Navezgane, Arizona. The goal of 7 Days to Die is to survive as long as you can while fending off the elements and the hordes of zombies. The video with more explanation has since been removed by the developer. Though there is no real objective except surviving at this moment, the developers promised a dynamic storyline in the Kickstarter and stretch goals. The player is a survivor of the war who must survive by finding shelter, food and water, as well as scavenging supplies to fend off the numerous zombies (hinted to be the consequence of nuclear fallout, a new strain of flu, or both) that populate Navezgane. The game's events take place during a nuclear attack in the Third World War, which destroyed an extremely large part of the world, except for some areas such as the fictional county of Navezgane, Arizona. It is also available on Xbox One via Game Pass, but still unknown if it will return on PlayStation 4. In late 2022, The Fun Pimps announced that the game will be re-released on consoles targeting Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5. Versions for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One were released in 2016 through Telltale Publishing, but are no longer being developed. It was released through Early Access on Steam for Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X on December 13, 2013, and for Linux on November 22, 2014. 7 Days to Die is an upcoming survival horror video game set in an open world developed by The Fun Pimps. |
